Genso Suikoden 2 RPG
Frequently Asked Questions

version 3.

The Suikoden 2 RPG is an interactive chapter-based fanfic based on the events during the game.  The character you choose does not have to do what he/she did in the game, making your character's future open ended.  The idea of the RPG is to write chapters but also to interact with others.  Please read this FAQ before starting.  If you have any further questions, post to the message board.

The Head Honchos

The GMs, or Game Masters, are the heads of the RPG.  They run the RPG.  They set the rules.  Please ask them about any concerns you have.  They are:

  • Janus - Keeps the character list and some other pages updated, along with other various tasks.
  • Koh - Handles character applications. (Do not mail Vorsh, even though we all love him so. ^_^)
  • Jowy handles the chapter archive updates and is also the spontaneous keeper of the webspace.  If things disappear, are moved around, and such, blame him.

Getting Started
  • Check the Character List to see if the character of your choice.  You may want to double check on the message board and ask if the character you want is taken or not.  Characters available are all 108 stars, Highlanders, and anyone who's had a major or minor role in the game.  Even characters such as Koh, Elly and Marco Atreides are choosable.  Original Characters are not allowed for main characters.
  • Go to the Choose a Character page and fill out an application for the character of your choice.  Answer all the questions.  Please take some time to think about your character -  1-liners or rushed applications won't be accepted.  When you are done, e-mail your application to Koh. (This address is just for character applications. If you want to talk to Koh about other things besides character applications, e-mail him here.) Then wait until you are accepted.
  • You can choose to reserve your character or take the character altogether.
    • Taken Characters are yours.  You can write chapters for them, etc.  To take a character, you must apply for him/her and wait for approval.
    • Reserved Characters are characters you think you want but are not 100% sure about.  Perhaps you haven't played the game and wish to see if this character suits you.  (E-mail any GM about reserving characters.  You need not apply.)  In this case, the character is reserved for you.  The character isn't yours yet.  You can't post chapters for that character until you actually apply for the character.  Also, Koh will only keep a character reserved for a couple of weeks; you might want to check in with Koh every once in a while if you plan to take any longer.
  • Note that only characters who have True Runes in the game can have True Runes in the RPG. If you wish to make up your own rune, you need a GM's permission. But make sure the rune is in limits - an Invincibility Rune won't be accepted for example.
  • If/when you are accepted, post on the message board to let everyone know you exist.  Also, ask about the area you wish to start in and if anyone has used your character in his/her chapter(s).  Certain events or characters may have arrived at that location you may need to know.
  • 2 characters per writer. You may choose only 1 if you want. 3 or more characters are not permitted.

Writing Chapters and Co-Writes
  • NPCs are Non Playing Characters.  They are choosable characters in the RPG that have not been taken.  You are allowed to use NPCs to your liking as long as they (A) are not killed off; (B) are not in use with another character in another location.  For instance, if Shu's writer is using Hix and Tengaar as NPCs in Radat and your character is in a different location, Hix and Tengaar are unavailable as NPCs until you go to Radat or it's stated that Hix and Tengaar have left Radat.
  • Original characters also follow under the rule of NPCs.  Original characters are allowed only as NPCs.
  • No use of other players characters without their permission.  See below for details.
  • The idea of the Suikoden 2 RPG is not only to write chapters but to interact with others.  When 2 or more characters are in the same location, you can choose to co-write with each other.  A co-write is a joint chapter between writers.  Send an e-mail or ICQ message to the other person in question.  Arrange what you need to do from there.
  • If you totally bombed your chapter, and that happens to everyone at least once, feel free to post the rewrite to the mailing list.  If it's trivial stuff such as missed spelling or a few grammar errors here and there, just e-mail Jowy with your revised chapter.

Posting Chapters/Mailing List
  • First, please subscribe to the mailing list.  The address for the mailing list is gs2rpg@listbot.com.
  • To post chapters, send an e-mail to the mailing list inlcluding your chapter.  Please send chapters as plain text.  To do so, just copy your entire chapter and paste it to the body of an e-mail.
  • Please state your character's location whether it'd be in the beginning of the chapter or on the e-mail subject.
  • Try not to send chapters in HTML if you can.  Please send in text form.  (If your browser sends e-mail as HTML automatically, well, that can't be helped much.)  Posting URLs leading to your next chapter is A-OK.
  • If you wish to use italiacs, bold font, underline, or other HTML fancy (different font, etc), please include the tags yourself in the chapter.  The reason being is that to HTML chapters, Jowy copies from the e-mail body itself and paste it somewhere else.  Having added HTML tags helps very much.
  • Also, no spamming the mailing list for stuff other than chapters if it can be helped.  If you need to make an announcement to everyone, that's what the message board is for.

Leave of Absence
  • If somehow you disappear in 2 months - that is, appeared to have vanished from the face of the online world - you will be put on *MIA* (Missing In Action) status.  In that time you'll receive a MIA notice asking if you still want to participate.  If there's failure to reply, your character will be available again.
  • If you are going to be away for an extended period of time, let the GMs and the people on the message board know.  A blue star will be placed beside your name on the contact list, indicating that you will be away for awhile but you still have your character.
  • Now, if you disappear with matters against your control before you can contact everyone, and your character has been put back on the available list, just contact us saying what happened and you want your character back.  We understand.
  • It happens but personal problems may lead you away from the Suikoden 2 RPG.  In that case, just leave a letter of resignation.  Your character(s) will be available again.
  • If you find your storyline seriously impeded by the lengthy, sudden absence of another character, e-mail Koh or Janus about it and the player in question shall receive an e-mail regarding this.  If they do not reply to the e-mail within a week's time, they shall be placed on the MIA list.
