"Days End" (Tworiver) Thunk. Thunk. Thunk. The sound of heavy leather boots on the small plank connecting the Kobold and Winger districts of Two-River City reverbirated softly as Lord Ridley continued on his way to his meeting with Makai, the prencipi..or was it prencapil..oh..it didn't matter.. simply put, he was Two-Rivers true mayor. Though the city was ruled by a three-house parlimentary system of all three races, he was the figurehead, the representative, the first to get credit and last to be blamed..it was no wonder Ridley despised human politics. His thoughts were interrupted, however, as one of the two guards at the end of the plank turned and barked out a quick "Sir!" , jolting Ridley back to reality. "Hmm?" Ridley turned and saluted the soldier, who returned it with a bit too much enthusiasm..but that was forgivable. Better to have to much enthusiasm than to not have enough. "Yes.. what is it?" The soldier ,still standing stiff as a petrified tree-trunk, began his report. "Well sir.. there was a human asking to see you sir. But I told him you were too busy." Ridley sighed, it was so unusual for a human to want to actually meet right in the middle of the Kobold district. Surely couldn't have been Makai. Ridley folded his arms over his chest," Well..what did he look like?" The soldier gulped..was Ridley actually expecting this visitor? "W...well sir.," he began," He was wearing a crimson red outfit..with a purple cloth draped over one shoulder..um..light armor..short blonde hair..oh..and an emblem on his chest sir." The fur lining Ridley's brow shot up nearly half an inch, "What!? Did the emblem bear the image of a sword with three blades..each backed by a red, white, or blue background?" The soldier gulped even harder," Y..yes sir..exactly sir." Ridley scratched the bridge of his nose, and sighed softly. "You don't know who that was do you?" The soldier shook his head. "Well i'll tell you who it was," Ridley crossed his arms again, " that man was Sir Camus..leader of Matilda's red knights brigade, and co-second in command of the knights, under Lord Gordo. Why didn't you tell me he was here? He must have wanted something important to come all this way." The soldier was obviously very worried, he was practically shaking. "Y-Y-you said not to let any human except Makai in s-s-sir.." Ridley shook his head..well.he had so ordered..can't blame a Kobold for doing his job can you? "Where did he go?" The soldier wiped his forhead, at least his commanding officer wasn't angry about it. "I beleive he returned to Rockaxe sir." Ridley patted the guard on his shoulder, "Well.no need to worry over it. If he want's to see me so badly, Gordo will get his obese carcass down here himself..or at least send a correspondence." Ridley turned and started on his way to the human district. "As you were men." The two guards fell back into their usual position, and wouldn't move for the rest of the night. Ridley silently gritted his teeh in disgust as he acended the steps of the city hall of Two-River. He so dispised being in the human district, and hate dealing with Makai's guards even more. One of the guards snapped to attention and saluted when he saw General Ridley coming up the steps. "Good evening sir!" he called out a little too briskly, obviously he was also hiding some digust of his own, "Do you have buisness with Lord Makai?" Ridley snorted,"As a matter of fact I do. I am to attend a meeting with him tonight. May I pass?" The soldier looked to his companions and then stepped aside, bowing just a bit. "By all means sir." Not saying a word, Ridley acended the steps and pushed open the heavy oaken door of the old building, the bolts creaking softly, the result of a bit too much rust over the years. Walking down the well carpeted halls, Ridley found it hard to beleive that Makai actually found it necassary to have such a vast amount of grandiose artwork in the city hall. It was obviously just a waste of good tax money. Ridley paused at the door, and took a deep breath. "Time for the meeting," he said softly to no one in particular, "I wonder what on earth Makai could want." "Aah Lord Ridley, do please come in." Makai cheerfully waved the Kobold general into the room. Well..at least Makai was polite..for a human, though pitifully weak-willed and wishy washy. "Well Lord Makai," began Ridley, making shure to show every bit of diplomatic courtesy necassary, "what is this meeting about?" Makai cleared his throat..Ridley shure got to the point fast. "Well General..it has come to my attention that there is some sort of an uproar in Highland..I've heard rumors that all passages to Highland from Muse have been closed and they are drilling their military around the clock. It truly concerns me..what could those Highlanders be planning?" Ridley would have arched his eyebrows, if he had any that is, at the news. How did Makai know all this? More importantly..what was Highland planning if this was all true? Shurely they were not going to restart the war!? "How do you know this Lord Makai?" Makai stroked his chin, "I have sources both in Muse and in Kyaro..as well as 'other places'. More importantly Lord Ridley..we must come up with a plan. I beleive Highland is on the verge of declaring war..for what reason I do not know. We MUST make plans to protect Two-River." Ridley nodded; he was , for once, inclined to agree with Makai. Two-River did need to prepare..especially if Highland was gearing up for war. If Highland did reignite the war and attacked Two-River.. Makai would shurely sell out. It was time for Ridley to tell his people..and to prepare. "Thank you for informing me Lord Makai..but i'm afraid I must as to be excused. I need to breif my people on this matter, and prepare our Kobold forces." With that, Ridley spun on his heel and left, leaving a somewhat awe-struck Makai behind him, and headed back for Two-River Kobold. If things were indeed heating up in Highland...it was time for the Kobolds to buckle down and get ready. They were in for the fight of their lives.
