"A break at last?" “What do you mean we can’t come in?” Yori felt like decking the idiot guard. Muse was locked down? Whose idiot idea was that? He glanced back at the horse Lorelai was slumped over. She hadn’t budged since the escape from Zareth and… whatever the hell that thing was. Even worse, Lorelai was starting to run a fever. But this moron at the gate couldn’t see that. Maybe he’d have to make the guard see the dilemma. “Calm down Yori.” Sheena placed a reassuring hand on the boy’s shoulder. He turned to the guard, who was obviously getting aggravated. “I have experience with locked down cities. Just let me handle this.” Sheena calmly strolled up to the guard. “Sir. We simply need to return this horse, and get the lovely lady to a doctor.” The guard silently nodded his head and approached the horse. “Yep. The horse belongs in Muse. Remove the lady so I can return it.” The guard grabbed the horse’s reins. “WHAT!!!” Yori clenched his fists, and bit down on his lip so hard it began to bleed. “That’s it. I’m gonna kill him.” “NO!” Sheena grabbed Yori and held him back. “What good are you going to do her in jail?” The guard, oblivious to the scene, scooped Lorelai off the horse and gently laid her to the ground. “You boys might want to stop by the White Deer Inn for the night.” The guard then led the horse through the city gates, which then shut with a resounding clang. “$@^^*” Yori kicked the gate and then began to hop on his one good foot. “#$^&$%#…” “Whoa dude calm down. Before the guards drag you in anyway.” Yori glared at Sheena. “Shut up.” The pain in his
foot residing, Yori lifted Lorelai onto his shoulder
and turned to the east. This was going to be a long
walk. “Sheena, remind me to kill you when we get to
Hilda’s.”
“And the funky ruins out side of town. They’re one of the resting places, right Grammy?” The old woman turned to her granddaughter. “Yes Lorelai.” “And they’ll help us when the badmen come?” She looked down at the child. “I pray none of us ever see that time.” “Oh I think the Snider are cool. They’d put that awful empire down in no time!” “Shush child! Don’t say such things! This awful rebellion your father is assisting… It can’t bring any good.” Lorelai looked down. (But daddy wouldn’t do anything to hurt us. He’s trying to help us… But then Grammy is never wrong either.) ~You fool~ (What was that? Something’s wrong!) ~You’re right something’s wrong. Quit reliving the past fool!~ (He’s right. This was long ago. Before…) ~Before you learned how cruel the world really is.~ (Shut up! I was happy here!) ~Happy? Bah! You are never gonna be happy. You are destined to suffer for your entire life.~ “SHUT UP!!!!!” Lorelai’s grandmother looked at the child. “Excuse me?” “Sorry Grammy. I was having a nightmare.”
Sheena looked around the outside of the inn. Or was it a farm? He’d never seen an inn with animals in the front yard before. He opened the door and saw an older, but very attractive woman. This must be Hilda. “Hello Hilda!” The woman came up to Sheena, and then saw Yori carrying Lorelai. “Oh my… Yori, take her to a room quickly! And you…” She turned back to Sheena, who was practically drooling. Grasping his chin and lifting upward, she looked the awestruck boy in the eyes. “Go outside and get my husband.” “Husband?” Sheena came crashing back to earth. “Yes, Husband. His name’s Alex. He’s at the Sindar ruins out back.” Lorelai’s body shook at the mention of the word Sindar, and let out an unconscious scream, almost causing Yori to fall down the stairs. “Whoa…” “Get her to a room Yori, quickly!”
The whole town was aflame. Lorelai watched as the Faleena Royal Guard dragged people out of their homes and slaughtered them in the streets. Blood flowed like water, and the screams of women could be heard everywhere. “What’s happening Grammy!?!?” ~ You know very well what’s happening moron ~ (SHUT UP!!!) “Quick Lorelai run! Before they get you!” The woman set her to the ground, and turned to face the oncoming guards. Lorelai just stood there in shock. Her grandmother looked at what Lorelai saw and muttered a curse. She should have watched where she set Lorelai down. Lorelai looked at the town square, and saw her father swinging by a noose. Her lip quivered a bit, and then her eyes swelled up and exploded into a river of tears. “Lorelai run!” The elderly woman looked up at the looming specter of two silver clad knights riding horses. She looked back at her daughter’s daughter for what she knew would be the last time. “You don’t have time to cry child! RUN!” The knight on the left turned to the knight on the right. “You want her?” “Nah. Too old.” “OK.” The knight brought his sword down in an arc, cutting Lorelai’s grandmother down like wheat. Lorelai let out scream which pierced the soul of every one who heard it. The knight looked down at the shattered six-year old. “What about her?” “Better kill her too.” ~so Lorelai, is this the part where your sense of peace died?~ (SHUT UP!!!!!) The knight hopped of his horse and delivered a massive kick to Lorelai’s shoulder, sending her sprawling. He then kneeled down beside her and pulled a dagger from one of his boots. “Sorry kid. Queen’s orders.” Lorelai swung wildly and busted the knight’s lip. The knight spat some blood and a curse, but it was too late. Lorelai had already grabbed the knife, and jammed it into the knight’s neck. The other knight dismounted, but seemed to concerned with saving his partner to chase Lorelai. Lorelai ran and ran, as fast as she could. But her retreat was cut off when she ran into another knights legs. The knight looked down, his silver hair floating in the wind. “You must be the rebel’s brat.” Lorelai looked up defiantly. “Where’s my mom!?!” The knight glanced at a broken and bloody heap on the floor. “You mean her?” Lorelai swung her fist upwards between the knights legs, dropping him to his knees. She heard the knight mutter something, but she was to busy looking at his face. She would always remember that face. But she couldn’t do anything now. She turned and began running again, and then saw the Sindar ruin in the distance. Upon reaching it, she clambered up the steps and proceeded to beat upon the doors of the temple, screaming for help. ~But there was none was there~ (Grammy always said they’d save the world in it’s darkest days…) ~But your little hamlet was hardly the world, now was it?~ (True, but something did walk away from that temple that night… something stronger.) ~But at what cost?~ (SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Lorelai jumped up in the bed, screaming. Hilda, Alex, Sheena, and Yori quickly dashed to her side. Hilda placed her hand on Lorelai’s forehead. “She’s still a little warm.” Lorelai belted out a massive sneeze. “And there is a flu bug going around.” Hilda reached for a bowl of soup on a nightstand. “You better stay in bed for a while. Here have some of my pea soup.” “Great.” Lorelai looked at the four at her bedside, and then sipped on the bowl of soup. “I hate being sick.” “I got Pete to run outside and fetch some eggs for breakfast. He was so worried about you, he never went to sleep.” Alex frowned. “Where is he anyway?” “What!?!? Alex, you sent him out by himself?” “He volunteered, Hilda you know how the boy is.” Hilda dashed out of the room. Alex looked at the two boys. “What was that about?” Sheena smacked his forehead. “The kidnappers…” “Kidnappers?!?!” Just then, a loud scream pierced the morning calm. Lorelai leapt out of bed, and followed Alex down the stairs. Sheena and Yori arrived outside just in time to see both Alex and Hilda kneeling on the ground, weeping. And Hilda was clutching a purple cap. Lorelai sneezed, and then knelt and traced her fingers on the ground. “Yori, stay here. Sheena, you too.” Yori looked down at Lorelai. “What are you going to do?” Lorelai looked up at the horizon. “I’m going to have to find Pete.” She then began running, before anyone could voice an objection. ~ What? WHY? What does the boy mean to you? ~ (Get out of my head!) ~ Oh. You think by saving him, you’ll be saving your own innocence ~ (Shut up.) ~ It’ll never happen.~ (Shut up!) ~ I’ll stop you ~ Lorelai felt a shiver run down her spine. Then she just shook it off and kept following the trail. (We’ll see about that.)
