Killey Chapter 7
"Nothing else matters"
(Muse)

[ May 22, 407; In the year of our lord. I put pen to paper for the first time in too many days. Things have changed in so many ways. My journey into the badlands in finding out if that rumor of a Sindar ruins out there was true or not has made an unexpected turn. After my mount gave out on me, I was left wandering in that wasteland using only my hunches in guiding my way. A hidden town I stumbled on saved my life. With help from the towns people, I found the ruins on a near by mountain. However there was far more than ruins up there. ]

"Master, it is late. I can feel your exhaustion. Please go to sleep. I shall watch over you tonight," The blades said.

Putting his travel log and pen down, Killey rubbed his eyes. He looked around and poked the campfire with a branch. Achika was curled up on the ground asleep near the fire. Even in the cool night air, she did not want or use a bed roll but slept on the ground. She kept her good wing and tail wrapped around her while her other wing stuck out with the splint still on it. She didn't even shiver, but looked rather comfortable. Killey just slowly shook his head in amazement of her.

"I know, I know. I want to finish this entry. I need to do this. Hum, you need a name too. I just can't keep calling you blades," Killey thought.

He looked at the stars in the night sky. Except for the campfire, it was almost pitch black that night. The shimmering stars shown like diamonds on black velvet.

"Twilight. Your name will be Twilight. It is a fitting name for you."

"Thank you master! (Giggle)," Twilight responded with happiness that reminded him of a young girl.

Picking up the pen and travel log, he resumed writing.

[ The ruins were still inhabited by a Sindar. After having some trouble with some monsters, the Sindar named Zohar led me deep inside the ruins. What I saw was beyond imagining. Mostly they were bizarre machines of unknown (possibly unknowable) make and purpose. But it is where Zohar led me was the main attraction. I was led into a room of fire that did not burn me. It was there I acquired a rune that I have never seen before as well as pair of exotic blades. Both are inhumanly powerful, both are self aware, and both can speak to me in my mind. ]

Looking up from his writing, Killey looked over at his blade belt where Twilight remained stealth. He glanced over to the back of his right hand where the symbol of the Anger rune is visible. It's red, orange, yellow, silver, and gold formed a pattern that reminded him of a tongue of flame with a face within it. It's vistage twisted in pain and anger. This was not a symbol of evil destruction or righteous

[ The process that bonded them to me was painful and exhausting beyond what I thought I could live though. The Sindar promptly whisked me away from the ruins and dumped me more or less out side the city of Tinto of the city-state alliance of Jowston. I was bewildered and in pain so I looked for a place to rest in the city. To my embarrassment, I couldn't find my way in the city and I feared that I would get lost. After wandering around the town I stumbled across a pack of kidnappers with a young girl who was their hostage. They were about to do the unspeakable to her. It was then that I decided to intervene on her behalf. ]

The campfire gave a pop and a log crumbled a bit more as it was being consumed in the flames. Killey looked up in time to see Achika shift in her sleep. She mumbled something incoherent and then went quiet again. After giving out a sigh, he continued writing.

[ The kidnappers didn't stand a chance for the equipment the Sindar gave me decimated them. After word I carried the girl back to her home where I collapsed. I presume that they took me in and let me rest over night. To my surprise, the young girl's name was Lilly and she is the daughter of the mayor of the city. I was able to rest, to eat, and thankfully take a bath. I was feeling much better, but when I spoke with the mayor of the town I received a bit of a shock. It seems that there might be other Sindar ruins with the city-state Confederacy of Jowston. But more supriseingly that it seems that Lorelai has been seen being in Jowston as well. She's still alive.. SHE'S STILL ALIVE!!! Oh lord I have missed for her for so long. I have lost her trail over 3 years ago. I was expecting to find her resting place, but I am happily wrong. Well at least from what Gustav told me last.

I know to anyone who reads this later that I might sound crazed but I love Lorelai will all my heart and soul, plain and simple. Even though she accidentally scarred my face instead of giving me light cuts elsewhere, I still consider it as the bonding mark between her and I. I know I hated the way Faleena worked, but I had to accept the rules none the less. I will hold this mark as my eternal bond with Lorelai. But finding her is probably going to be the easy part. In that cave Lorelai and I fell into we must have been exposed to something. When we got out, I could tell she wasn't the same. She could be tough and harsh on the outside, but she had a wonderful heart and did care for me. After touching that box she lost her heart and soul…no, something took them away.

Her eyes, her eyes, her beautiful blue eyes. There was no life in those eyes on the day she left me! ]

Killey put the travel log down harder than necessary. He was breathing heavier and sweat began to form as the old memories and thoughts he just wrote echoed though his mind. He tried to calm down and clear his mind.

"Calm your self Killey. Don't want to wake up Achika now." Killey mumbled to himself as he reached for his canteen and took a drink.

Achika did stir at the noise, but didn't wake up. Killey looked over at her in silence.

"Don't…don't leave me…I don't want to be alone…(sniff)." Achika said in her sleep.

He looked at her as she settled down again. Not sure about what to think about what she said, he returned to writing in his travel log.

[ I can feel that something has planted itself deep into her soul. Lorelai became so angry then. She almost punched me out as well. She would never do that before we found that mysterious box. I assume a demon has possessed her or something similar. Maybe Zohar knows what happened to her. But asking him doesn't seem to be an option now. It seems that I will have to find out a way to deal with her when I find her.

But Lorelai might not be the only one with a demon inside. I've been also wondering what my new rune and my new blades (whom I have named anger and twilight respectively) are doing to me. The fight with those kidnapers had showed me just a possible glimmer of what I am capable of doing. Over the last few days Achika has been hinting at me that I am far more powerful than a normal human due to what the soul forge has done to me. It scares me to no end. Will I become a monster like my beloved Lorelai became in front my eyes from the eldrich being within? Will the fire of rage inside me take over my mind?

I have but one question left now. Once I find Lorelai, will have to fight her to free her from the monster within, or will she have to battle with me due to my own demon within? Only time will tell…

I must digress. I also discovered that Zohar has sent a follower and to observe me. Needless to say I wasn't happy at all. She (the observer's name is Achika) is not a human, but a HALF human, HALF dragon! I have never seen such a being or race before. She is intelligent and can talk. Her appearance is very exotic with human like body but gold skin, tail, and draconian wings.. She exhibits an array of (I presume magically based) abilities. How ever she does not want to discuss about them with me yet. She has a pleasant personality. I presume she's at a young age, but I can only guess as to how young. A woman's age is just something you just don't ask a lady, no matter what the race.

Tomorrow Achika and I will push on to Muse before the Highland forces over takes the city. I must find those files Gustav told me about. They are my first lifeline in along time. it maybe my last one. My last chance to find peace, to find my love… ]

Killey wearily closed the book and put it and the pen away in his backpack. Gave the camp a final look over and then pulled himself into his sleeping bag. The unquiet dreams of sadness and loss began.
