Kahn Chapter 3
“A new friend…”
(South Window)

Walking…endless walking, it was morning, although too early to be morning, I saw South Window ahead, gates open to everyone, and Lord Granmeyer who always kept peace within it’s walls.

“Bout time…what’s that…?” Kahn stood to see a young kid beaten by a bunch of thugs, they looked to be bandits of sorts, at an age of 17-20.

“Take that punk!” One of the thugs yelled.

“AAHH HELP SOMEONE!!!” No one heard the kid, other than me, it seemed to be in a dark alley near the South Window. I couldn’t just sit back and watch this kid be beaten to death…what’s the world coming too…?

“HEY YOU THERE, STOP THIS NOW!!!!” Kahn yelled at the three thugs.

“What the heck do you wa…UGH!!!” I answered his question with a punch in the nose, soon the thugs’ nose was bleeding to death…

“Boss…?” The other thug said. The kid that was beaten to death ran off, to his home I think.

“What are you doing beating a kid to death!? I’m sure your parents taught you better!!!” Kahn yelled. After all his foster father told him the ways of right and wrong.

The three thugs just stood there, the one with the bleeding nose got up, he drew his dagger from his boots. “Well well well…what do we have here…seems to be a adventurer, you must have good money in your pockets…”

I just stared in disgust at the thug, soon after the other two drew their daggers.

“Y…you punched the boss’s nose you…little…ba…” I threw my dagger in the man’s throat, he was choking, bleeding hard…

“Adel! Damn I’ll get you!!!” The youngest of the thugs ran toward me with his dagger aiming at my heart, I put my hand in front of him, activating my resurrection rune, he plumped against the wall with hard force from the power I drew. Although still alive, it seems as though his arm was broken.

“A rune eh…? Well well well…good work…wait till you see my power…” The leader of the thugs drew his hand out also…same way as mine, I counterattacked using my resurrection rune until our powers from the runes collided.

“Aargh!” This man isn’t no ordinary rune master, nor a bandit for certain.

“Heh heh heh heh heh!” His eyes were fierce, this rune he has is truly powerful. Soon I collapsed, unconscious on the ground.

I barely opened my eyes, I saw the powerful figure walked away, he didn’t take anything from me, who is this guy?

“Nice doing battle with you…Marley…boy…” The figure drew his arms up, turned into bats and flew away.”

“Ugh…” It wasn’t Neclord…it wasn’t, that rune he used wasn’t his…I didn’t know there was another vampire among the living…

I woke up in a room of someone’s house, seemed to be noble like…I opened my eyes, I saw a bandage on my head, feeling it with my hands.

“W..where am I…?” Mumbled in a small tone.

“Don’t worry my friend…your are in the house of Granmeyer.”

“Granmeyer?” I got up from the bed, I took a look at the wound on my head…not too serious.

“Don’t worry young adventurer, a little town boy from the inn told me that you saved his life yesterday.” Granmeyer said.

“Is the kid all right?” I said with a little worry in my voice.

“Thanks to your bravery, although it wasn’t suggested to kill one of the thugs…” Granmeyer said.

“Sorry…what’s the boys name?” I said.

“His name is Tyler, he’s the son of the innkeeper in South Window.” Granmeyer said. “You should pay him a visit. He really admires adventurers such as you.” Granmeyer said.

“Yeah I should…where’s my equipment?” I said.

“All in that chest over there. I forgot my manners, what is your name good traveler?”

“Kahn…Kahn Marley.”

“Nice to meet Mr. Marley. I hope you enjoy the hospitality of this fine town. But beware in the countryside, there might be war coming between the highland and us…” His voice grew lower.

“I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks for all your help Lord Granmeyer, and I’ll be sure to pay the kid…Tyler a visit.” I said.

“Farewell my friend.” Granmeyer said as I walked out the town hall.

I walked outside passed the big stone column, I took a quick look in my moneybag, luckily the 5000 potch was still there. I entered the medicine shop.

“Welcome my friend what can I help you with?” The store clerk said.

“I would like to purchase some provisions and medicines please…” I said.

“Sure thing, what would that be then hm?”

“I would like five regular medicines…and a pickax please…” I need the pickax to dig through the rocks in the cave of the wind.

“Sure that would be 500 potch sir.” I handed the amount needed.

“Thank you kindly, stop by again often and I’m also sorry for the steep price. War might be comin between the highland and us, and war’s bad for business.

I simply nodded. After walking outside I decided to head out for the inn.

I walked through the door.

“What might I help you with sir?” The innkeeper said.

“Do you have a son named Tyler…?” I said.

“Yes why…OH YOU MUST BE THE PERSON WHO SAVED MY SON’S LIFE!!!!! Come in, come in!!!” The innkeeper called his son from upstairs.

“Yes dad? Oh it’s you!” Tyler said. He looked to be about 8-9 years old.

“Is this the man who you were talking about?” The innkeeper said.

“Yes he saved my life from those bad men…!” Tyler said.

“Thank you sir, it’s been terrible since news that war might be coming soon. My name is Clyde and I’m the innkeeper. Son could you go back upstairs and play for awhile I have to talk to this man alone ok?”

“Ok dad!” The young kid ran upstairs in a wild way.

“Please sit over here. What is your name good sir?”

After finally given a chance to talk I replied that: “I’m Kahn, Kahn Marley.” I said.

“Welcome, we get many visitors out here, but unlike you…what is your purpose in this city anyway?” Clyde said.

“I’m just here to buy some equipment for the Cave of the Wind.” I said.

“Well that’s good I guess, and I feel as though I should repay you for saving my son.” Clyde said.

“That won’t be necessary sir, just helping out that’s all…” I was interrupted.

“Wait! Could you please talk to my son, he admires adventurers and maybe you could share some tales with him? Please sir? I’m just a boring old man with a boring job, that my son is so bored, he’s always wanted to go on a adventurer when he got older…”

“I’m sorry but I have to get going…maybe when I get back…I’m sure you understand.” I said.

“I understand good sir.” Clyde said.

“S’cuse me…um Kahn right? Could I talk to you?” Tyler was eavesdropping after all.

“Sigh, sure thing kid, what is it?” I said.

“Um, what is it like adventuring…?” Tyler said in an innocent demeanor.

I kneeled down on him. “Listen little boy, I didn’t ask to be an adventurer ya know.” I said.

“Really? What made you do it…?” Tyler said.

“I’ll give you one tip kiddo, you see my hometown was destroyed, lots’ of important people were killed, and I was dragged to be an adventurer all my life. Take good care of your father ok? That’s the only thing you should do…and it’s a better life, and a happy one…” I said, I walked out the door.

“…..” Tyler was speechless… and his dad came over to comfort him.

Soon after I walked out the city, and my way into the countryside, next destination, Cave of the Wind.
