"Letter from Home" (Unicorn Brigade) It was a mystery why Jowy Atreides wanted to join the Unicorn Brigade. He had everything money could buy. He could have lived a rich, comfortable life lounging around, taking up the family fortune and taking care of the family business. Nobody, not even Jowy's childhood best friend, Makoto, questioned him. Jowy preferred not to be questioned. Some secrets he had to keep to himself. Only three more days until the Unicorn Brigade completed their training, then everyone can return home. Jowy spoke of returning home sighing blissfully. If anyone cared to look deep in his eyes, they could see the pain and regret his words masked. Jowy returned to his tent. Makoto was already getting dressed for the night. The blond boy chuckled. "Are you looking forward to returning home?" Jowy asked. Makoto smiled cheerfully. "I can't wait to go home! I miss Nanami, and I miss my home." "I see..." Jowy said quietly. "Nanami must be worried sick about you. We should get to sleep soon." That's true. Nanami is worried sick about you. You're lucky you have someone who cares that much. "Excuse me..." a quiet boy entered the tent. "I have a letter addressed to Jowy-sama." "Please call me Jowy." Jowy said casually. He disliked formalities. The blonde-haired young man thanked the messenger he received the letter. Makoto glanced at him worriedly. "What's the matter, Jowy? Is everything all right?" Jowy closed the letter. He had a natural talent for reading quickly. "I'm sorry. Mother wishes for my immediate return. I have to leave tonight. Promise you'll stay well." Makoto smiled. "All right, Jowy. That's a promise." "All right. I will need permission from Commander Rowd. Until then..." Commander Rowd was a busy man who hated to be bothered. The boys of the Unicorn Brigade watched in awe as Jowy cooly approached the commander's tent. No one knew how he kept a calm head around people like Commander Rowd. "Excuse me, sir." said Jowy. "What is it? I'm busy." Rowd snapped. He whirled around then relaxed upon seeing Jowy. "Oh, it's you, Jowy. You're here to talk about your going home, huh?" "Yes, sir." "Well go home. Your mother's worried sick about you." Jowy nodded. "Thank you, sir." Quick and simple. Jowy packed his bags and left as soon as possible. The longer he stayed, the harder it would be for him to leave his best friend behind. Somewhere deep inside, he had a sinking feeling something bad will happen to the Unicorn Brigade...
