Jeane Chapter 1
"Unwelcomed Rain"
(Greenhill)

...drip....

...drip........drop...
...drip...drop...dripdrop....dripdropdripdropdrip-

Flinching spasmodically, Jeane woke up from the constant dripping of rainwater that ran from the ceiling and landing the edge of her nose. Muttering incoherently, she rolled, quite literally, out of bed.

.......thud. That was attractive.

Wincing in pain, Jeane limped over to her wooden desk and sat in the chair heavily. She stared out of her window, seeing the luminous gray clouds and rolling white ones, and sighed. The elements had already begun to swirl around her, even as her grayish blue eyes blinked blearily, only now focusing on her quill pen.

.......knock....

Jolted out of her reverie wide eyed, Jeane hurried to grab her robe and rush to the door. Opening it calmly with one hand, she patted her hair down gently with the other, her smile ready on her face.

A small, round, grubby face greeted her. "Miss Jeane...?"

Eyes softening, Jeane smiled heartily and knelt down to be eye level with the young girl with dirty blonde hair. "May I help you?"

Her small hands proudly displayed a simple medicine rune. "Kin you hewp me wif dis?"

"Sure..." Jeane took the rune and began the incantation. She also couldn't help but to stare at the shabby little ray of sunshine, bursting amidst the dark and cloudy-

"I asked all the other teachers but they were busy, so you were the last one left."

Well.

With a strained smile on her face and a very tight "here you go", Jeane closed the door behind the bold little imp.

Sighing, she returned to her desk, only to stare once again out the window, into the forest.

The forest...

How long had it been since she'd picked flowers? ...Her head hurt. How long since she was a child, and played with other children...? ...It hurts... How long-

Jeane flinched and clutched her head. What was the matter with her? She mentally gave herself a shake. Her mind was not in the right place... something wasn't right...

"Jeane?"

Raising her aching head to look at the young man that had opened her door, she replied, "Yes...?"

"Mail." A small letter, fastened with a seal was given to her.

"Thank you..." Jeane didn't even notice when he shut the door behind him, hollering down the hall.

Her eyes were focused on the letter. And the seal.

Her father's seal.

Jeane let out a long breath she didn't know she was holding. Eyes unfocused, hands unconsciously moving, she pulls out a leather-bound book and dips her quill pen into the ink.

Dear Diary... Jeane reread what she had wrote. How utterly childish, she thought, and crossed it out.

To Jeane... Better. She raised the pen thoughtfully to her lips.

I write this now, ever knowing the consequences of my past being brought to light. It is so painful to write, even now, with many years passed.

This is my story.

-----and the rain began to fall.
