(South Window) The mayor’s office was full of people. Many officials were at the meeting. The meeting was led by an elderly man. He was thin and tall. His silver-grey hair was smoothly put. His large eyebrowses went up and down as he read the reports. The office was a mess. Papers were on the table and on the floor. Once every year, every member of the City-State had to donate money and food to the State Army. The elderly man looked at the reports. “So, how much money are we going to donate this year?” The elderly man was Lord Granmeyer, the mayor of South Window City and the ruler of South Window Principality. One of the officials stood up and showed Granmeyer the report. “It says that our part this year is only 500,000 potch. It is nothing compared to last year. The City-State is always asking....” “It is not asking too much. I’m happy to donate as much as the State needs.” “...Yes, my lord........and then here is the rations report.” The man gave another paper to Granmeyer. “Hmmmmm........very well.” “Are you really going to send that much?” “Yes. We have more than enough food here. Send the required amount” “As you wish. Well, that was my last report. I’ll deliver them to the transports.” “Good. Alright, let’s look at the other reports.” The meeting continued to late night. The donations for the City-State were decided and all other businesses were also finished. Lord Granmeyer was alone in the office. All others left after the long meeting. Granmeyer was looking the sleeping city. All was quiet. Not even a single sound. Only the wind. Granmeyer was feeling tired, the day was long, and tomorrow is still the military meeting with the city defence. Defence was crusial these days. Even when the war against Scarlet Moon Empire and later Toran Republic ended, there was still a threat coming from the north. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The next morning Granmeyer prepared to meet his Army commanders. He walked to the office window and looked out. The city was fully awakened. The marked was full of people. Merchants were coming and going. Traiding Center seemed to be full. There was a long line of people, waiting to get in and buy stuff. Then he noticed his Army commanders walking towards the City Hall. Granmeyer sat down to his mayor’s chair. The office door opened. Two soldiers walked in. The other was tall and thin, and the other one a bit shorter and not that thin. The men bowed to Granmeyer and sat down. He took some papers from the desk. “Let’s begin. Give me your reports.” First the tall man stood up. He was the commander of the 2nd South Window Company. “My lord. The 2nd Company is ready. All new recruits are now trained.” “Very well. What about the 3rd Company?” The other man stood up. He was a bit older that the other commander. “The 3rd Company isn’t fully ready yet. One trooper regiment is still under training.” “Very well. Because of the unstable conditions in the north, I want all troops to be ready for battle anytime.” “Yes, Lord Granmeyer.” “What about the Army’s equipment?” “The troopers are equiped with some of the latest gear.” “Good. And what about Runes?” “Many soldiers have Fire Runes. And the medical units have Medicine and Water Runes.” “Excellent. But one thing...” “What?” “Defence. Have atleast ten men equiped with Earth Runes.” “As you wish, my lord.” “Well, that was all. I’ll come to see the troops during this day.” “Yes sir.” Both men bowed and left the office. Granmeyer put the Army documents to the desk. He stood up and walked to the window again. He watched how the people did their thing and how some troopers were training at the city gate. Granmeyer decided that is was time to take a little walk. He went out side. The weather was sunny. There wasn’t any clouds in the sky. Granmeyer walked down the City Hall stairs. He first walked to the Stone Garden. There were many small bonsai trees. One old lady was taking care of them. As she noticed Granmeyer, she bowed. Granmeyer greeted the old lady and continued his walk. He walked to the Traiding Center. The line of waiting people was only getting longer. Granmeyer walk past the line towards the city gate. The soldiers were getting into formation. Granmeyer stopped infront of the soldiers. The Company commanders stood next to him. Granmeyer looked at the soldiers. “Good morning, Army of South Window!” “Good morning, Lord Granmeyer!!!!” Granmeyer held a speech to the soldiers. How they should secure the City-State and before all, how to secure South Window Principality. It may be peaceful time now, but because of the tense atmosphere in the north, all troops must be in full combat readiness. After the long speech, Granmeyer returned to his office. There was still a couple of meetings left today. As he stepped into his office, two of his officials came in with many documents and reports. “Lord Granmeyer, here are some reports from the city officials.” Granmeyer smiled. “Here we go again.”
