Freed Chapter 7
"A New Group"
(Forest somewhat near Two River)

Six Months after Freed 6

The sun rose, it's gleaming light draining the forest of darkness. Goalo watched the traveling group in the forest. There were three of them. They all wore cloaks that hid their appearances. He was going to rob them blind. Goalo was a greedy little thief. He pulled out his steel dagger he always kept in his boot. "These 3 should have lots of money," he thought to himself. He charged out to the three companions.

"You!" Goalo yelled. "I want your money, weapons and jewels."

The first man threw off his coat. He was a tough looking knight with the red of a Matilda knight. "I am Fid, ex-Matilda Knight."

The second one threw off his coat likewise. He was an...elf? "A am Hidar, half-elf from Toran."

The third one tried to throw off his cloak but he kinda tripped over it. He then stood up and drew his sword. He wore a pair of glasses and looked too nervous to be dangerous. "I am Freed. Agent of Lord Granmeyer!"

Goalo laughed to himself. Freed was infamous for being a boot licker.

"Hey, Freed lick my boots and maybe I'll let you live!" Goalo yelled sure of himself.

Freed looked a little embarrassed. Goalo took his chance! He grabbed for his dagger to heave it into the Matilda knight.

Goalo screamed as an arrow shot through his hand. Goalo couldn't believe what happened. He had never seen anyone move so fast as Hidar had with his bow.

Goalo dropped to his kneed screaming. These 3 totally out matched him. Well maybe not Freed but if Hidar was any indication, Fid would likely be as formidable. He had to choice if he was going to die then let him take out as many people as he could. He used his Fubar Rune to summon his Flame Beast. It of course took his life force but he knew he'd have his revenge.

Freed watched the thief drop dead right before his eyes. Fid was angry. "Darn! I can't believe he died from your arrow! I wanted to have a fight!"

"Uh, Sir Fid, Did you see the rune on his right hand glow as he died?" Freed asked cautiously.

Hidar laughed. "Freed you worry too much." He removed the run from the dead man's hand and tossed it to Freed. "Come on, let's rest up in Two River!"

Freed, Hidar and Fid sat down in the inn in the human section of Two River. It was nighttime by the time they arrived.

Freed was amazed at the change in him since collapsing in Kuskus. He had awoken in the inn. These two strange men were standing over him, Fid and Hidar. He had been traveling with them ever since. Hidar and Fid were hunting the Highland Hawks (See Freed #6--Shu/Freed) too. Freed saw a common goal and joined with them. They had been traveling, looking for a clue to the Hawks' leader. Goalo the thief had had dealings with the Hawks. Too bad he died before they could learn anything. Freed had (of course) permission before starting this quest. Lord Granmeyer equally thought it necessary to eliminate these Hawks.

"I say we get totally drunk!" Fid said. Now Fid had been dishonorably removed from the Matilda knights for slovenly behavior and conduct unbefitting a knight. Freed tolerated his behavior because they were teammates.

"I agree!" Hidar yelled. Hidar had gotten into a fight with Kirkis the head of the Toran elves. He had fled Toran and journeyed here. Freed ignored the fact he was from Toran. Him being a half-elf made him more elf then a Toran citizen.

A new waitress walked up to them to get their order. Freed would never describe her to anyone this way but she was beautiful. She had some magic glow around her that exuded an aura of goodwill. She was a lovely brunette with hazel eyes that seemed so innocent. She was well proportioned and wore a simple green dress. Freed's thoughts of course were only proper because he was married and loved his wife Yoshino. He briefly interrupted his train of thought wondering what she was doing. She was probably just doing her cleaning and housework.

Fid's thoughts however were less proper. He could see that from the look on his face. He also was salivating slightly.

Hidar was similarly looking hungry. Freed wanted to tell them to act proper but he couldn't see a polite way of saying it.

Fid then stood up and yelled before the inn, "I am Fid, Mightiest ex-Knight of Matilda!"

The waitress looked a little startled by Fid's outburst. She still did in though with an aura of innocence.

Hidar then stood up. He too had chosen to yell. "I am the mightiest half-elf from Toran in Jowston! And I am much a better warrior then Fud over here!"

"Oh yeah?" Fid yelled reaching for his sword.

The waitress looked a little confused. However then Fid jumped on top of Hidar and they began a mild brawl. It made Freed sick to see comrades fighting. He dropped a few potch on the table and walked outside.

The night was beautiful. It had a romantic air. It made him miss his wife SO much. The waitress exited the inn too and joined Freed.

"Hello, I don't believe we were properly introduced," the waitress began. "I am Fate."

"Hello Lady Fate. I am Freed." Freed said bowing his head for her.

"I guess you miss your wife."

"Yeah," Freed began. He then looked back at her. "How did you know I was married?"

Fate pointed to his wedding ring. "And I can see the longing in your eyes..." She walked into the breeze. "I too am waiting for my husband."

Freed looked at her. "Oh does he not live in Two River?"

"No, I don't think so. I actually have not met him yet. I just know my soul mate is out there somewhere."

Freed smiled. The pureness of this girl's heart stirred emotions normally reserved for fine classical music. Freed loved music. It sent his soul flying.

"How did you meet those two gentlemen in there?" she asked.

"Long story," Freed said.

Then Freed heard a gut wrenching howl. It chilled his spine.

"What was that?" Fate asked.

Freed saw in the sky flying toward them a hideous creature. It was red, the color of blood. It looked fearsome. It had large green wings. It sprayed fire form it's mouth. It was unlike a dragon though. It looked like a flying beast!

Hidar and Fid ran out from the inn.

"What the heck is that?" Fid yelled.

Hidar saw the beast. "It's a Flame Beast! They're extremely rare! You need to sacrifice yourself to a Fubar Rune to summon it."

Freed looked own at his pocket. "Um...Sir Hidar...I think our friend Goalo might have done just that."

"Oh, crap!" Hidar yelled. "It'll torch the village till it kills those who killed its master!"
