Camus and Klaus Chapter 2
"Crossing Guard"
(Outside Tworiver)

".....Maybe if I told the old man that the path to Two-River was inaccessible due to sewer-backup...."

No...He had to tell the truth. It was dishonorable as a knight to lie, but more so if he were to lie to his lord. He just needed some way to tell Gorudo, without angering him, that he was unable to speak with Sir Ridley, let alone securing an alliance with him. Camus knew, however, that reason and compassion were foreign concepts to the leader of the White Knights.

No...worries...I'll...just tell him what happened. He's sure to believe me. Camus laughed, trying to reassure himself.

But then again, who knows? As of late, Gorudo and Miklotov had not been the best of friends, not that they were in the first place, but things had been tense at Rockaxe for quite some time. Gorudo would often retreat to his quarters, locking himself in for the entire evening. No one knows what he did during the time, however, some of the white knights speculate that their Lord was not......alone in there....

"Who in their right mind would want to sleep with that??" Miklotov would often retort to the young White Knights. "Women should not be subject to such things...it's just not right...."

Camus rolled his eyes. Whatever. It didn't matter anyways since he had to tell Gorudo sooner or later. Why not get it over with? he thought, exasperated.

As the mounted knight galloped towards the Greenhill-Matilda border, he felt an unusually large bump, almost as if his steed had run over a rather large object. Camus pulled on the reins to force his mount to stop and looked back to see a young man lying on the ground, groaning in pain. There were two other....'objects'....lying right beside the boy, though Camus was not able to make out what they were at first.

"Pardon me young man! Are you alright??" The handsome knight inquired as he unmounted.

Acting on his knightly duty, he helped the boy up to his feet and asked if he was all right.

"Yes I am, Sir Camus. Thank you." he said graciously.

Camus blinked. "Aye...! Young man, how'd you know my name.....??"

"Everyone knows the commander of the Red Matildan knights..." the boy said with a modest smile.

Camus looked at the boy quizzically. Teenage, long brown bangs... He couldn't quite put his finger on it, but he was sure that he saw this young man before. He appeared familiar. Where had he before seen such a face...?

Camus snapped his fingers. A...a Highlander...! he thought to himself. He now remembered seeing this boy just outside the Muse-Matilda border along with General Kiba. Although he was not a threat without his soldiers, Camus still felt uneasy talking with a....potiental enemy.

"Um....Excuse me Sir Camus, forgive me for asking, but why are you at Two-River?"

Camus smiled warmly at the young boy, but he was not sure whether to trust him or not so he decided to play it safe and simply replied, "Oh..I just had some unimportant business to do over there..."

"Ah..! I see, sir Camus," The young man smiled nervously, "All right then, I'll be on my way now..and thanks again!"

Camus nodded, smiled and clambered back onto his steed. Now for home...

"Jigglypuff!" one of the boy's objects cried, leaping onto the horse's head. Its large blue eyes shot flames at Camus. The red knight did not know whether to pretend to be intimidated or laugh.

"Um....young man, where'd this come from? Would you be so kind as to remove it off my horse?" Camus said pointing to the round thing sitting on the rump of his steed.

"Sorry about that." the young man held out his hands. "Come here, Jigglypuff."

"Jiggly!" the round object called Jigglypuff cried, kicking Klaus in the face. She kicked Camus in the face repeatedly. "Jiggly! Jiggly jiggly puff!"

Camus rubbed his slightly bruised face and muttered, "Must..resist temptation to flatten pink round thing with big eyes..."

"I'm so sorry, Sir Camus, but she can have a temper sometimes..Now Jigglypuff, if you would please...?"

Jigglypuff sat on the rump of Camus' horse staring at both the red knight and the young man, but refused to move.

"Jigglypuff, please come here." the young man begged.

"Jiggly!" Jigglypuff exclaimed and kicked the horse's behind. Camus' horse took off like a shot! The boy and his other object named Eevee managed to grab a hold of the horse's tail as it ran full speed to nowhere..

This was definitely not a good day for Camus. Not only did he fail to secure an alliance with Two-River, but now his horse was galloping uncontrollably full speed towards the Greenhill-Matilda border. It wouldn't of bothered him so much if the path towards Matilda wasn't filled with a bunch of trees. He attempted to gain control of his horse by pulling on the reins, but found himself being bucked backwards....

"Vui!" The ever-helpful Eevee did it's Tackle attack, knocking Camus safely (?) to his horse's reigns. or so he thought. Who would have known that deep in the forest lurked a bog of quicksand?

Now Camus was heading head first into a lake of quicksand that apparently appeared out of nowhere, however, something had caught him by the arm and he was spared the terrible fate.

"Greetings, Sir Camus, I believe you wanted to see Commander Ridley?"

Camus saw himself face to face with a tall (which happened to be a rather recessive trait as far as kobolds are concerned) yet proud looking kobold warrior. It was not Ridley, but a creature that resembled a humanoid border collie decked out in an oversized, olive colored coat.

"Why.....why, yes..." the Red knight stammered.

The kobold soldier smiled warmly and replied, "Yes..I am Feris, Lieutenant of Two-River Kobald . I work very closely with Ridley and can grant you access inside the city. Shall we get going?"

"YES LET'S! I mean...Yes, let's not waste any time shall we?"

"Umm....Excuse me...Sir Camus...?"

Ah..yes...the young...Highlander...Camus grimaced slightly, as he was trying to think of an explaination to Sir Feris, who was now eyeing the teenager suspiciously.

"I'll..I'll be on my way.." he said meekly, "I'll be heading to Two-River now...C'mon JigglyPuff, c'mon Eevee..."

Feris cleared his throat. "Sir Camus, will you honor Sir Ridley's request and become his audience?"

Camus nodded. "Yes. It is an honor."

"Now...I happened to come here on foot, so if you don't mind may we return to Tworiver on your horse?"

"Certainly, Sir Feris."

Camus turned around where his horse was last standing to find that it had disappeared! The sound of a horse riding away was heard.

"I'm very sorry, Sir Camus. Your horse will be returned as soon as possible!"

Camus and Feris watched in horror was the boy rode away with his two objects sitting on the back. The Highlander was headed towards Tworiver!

"Hold it!" Camus and Feris cried.

'Stop?' Klaus wondered. 'Does that really work? Has anyone ever stopped?'

"After him!" Feris yelled. "Don't let him get away!"

The two raced after the horse. As the steed rode farther into the distance, Camus and Feris realized it was futile to try chasing it any longer.

"Fear not, Sir Camus." said Feris. "That Highlander will not get past the Kobold guards alive! Come, let us forget him and meet Sir Ridley."
