Agares Chapter 6
"Martin"
(L'Renouille)

Agares was returning to his room from another day at the Court. That day he'd read some papers, reviewed the various things needed to be reviewed in L'Renouille, read some papers, Read farming reports from Sajah, read some papers, and signed some letters being sent to the families whose children had been part of the Unicorn Brigade. He'd sent some of his fastest retainers to deliver the messages to Kyaro, make it seem like the King actually cared, which he didn't. He was trying to covertly start a war, and he couldn't cry over the spilt blood of some children. Besides, that was Ruka's doing, not his. Now, from the reports, 1 Brigade member had been away at the time of the attack...If he was expecting any special treatment, forget it. It just meant less work for Agares, who had enough on his plate already, thank you very much.

As Agares approached his room, he noted the door was open, just a crack. Agares gripped the King's Stone and it began to glow a faint green, the stone's colour. He cautiously opened the door and peeked inside. A Kobold dressed in a fiery red suit of armour was leaning against the wall. There was a Fire Rune on his forehead. Agares recognized him immediately. It was Raulff Derinlo, one of Martin's associates. He opened the door and stepped inside. Raulff grabbed his sword, but relaxed when he saw it was Agares. Standing at the fireplace (Oh yes, did I forget to mention Agares' room had a fireplace?) was an Elf in a blue robe, that would be Gideon Forestdweller, and an older man, in his late fifties, and Agares' senior, dressed in a black robe with gold trim, Martin De'Lavarque. Agares and Martin met each other in the middle of the room and shook hands warmly. The King bade them sit at the table, while Raulff, who was mute, closed the door. Gideon seated himself next to Martin, while Raulff sat on the other side. Agares sat across from Martin.

"I hope your trip up was uneventful?" Agares asked.

Martin waved his hand. "Hmmm, no. The only, hmmm, problem we ran into were a group of, hmmm, bandits who stopped us just after we left the, hmmm Harmonian Border."

"And?" Asked Agares, guessing on what happened, and guessing correctly.

"Let's just, hmmm, say they won't be, hmmm, bothering anyone anymore, hmmm."

Agares chuckled. "Good old Martin. Never backed down from a fight."

Martin shrugged. "Hmmm, got to put those young 'uns in their, hmmm, place. Anyway, what, hmmm, plans do you have for this war, hmmm?"

"I have procured some Jowston Soldier uniforms, 1 footsoldier, 1 mage, and one Two River Kobold uniform. Now, it's unusual to see Elves in Jowston, but there have been sightings. I will take my White Dragons to the forests near the border for some Wargames. I will send the better half of the Dragons out to the forest for overnight maneuvers while I remain in camp with some older, more experienced soldiers. After and hour, and the troops are deep in the forest, you will appear, Gideon in the footsoldier uniform, Raulff in the Two River uniform and you in the mage's uniform. You will unleash your powers on the camp, wreck everything, say something like 'This is the price you pay, Highland scum!', then vanish south, towards the border. An attack on the beloved King of Highland will certainly be enough to move the people to war."

"Any, hmmm, plans once the war is, hmmm, started?"

Agares smiled faintly. "Yes...I'm planning a little excursion into Harmonia." Martin raised an eyebrow but said nothing.

Agares continued. "Is this satisfactory?"

"A bit." Martin replied. "None of my associates or I has a, hmmm, Blinking Rune in our possession. Without one, escaping your soldiers would become, hmmm, difficult."

"I can easily supply you with one, Martin." Agares assured the Wizard. Martin nodded. "Good. When can we, hmmm, begin?"

"I have been letting the White Dragons rest since the Combat Training about fortnight ago. I believe I can cut it short. I will start out for the forest in two days. Can you follow us without being seen?" Martin chuckled. "I'll visit the forest in advance. I can Blink there and be there before you and set up."

Agares nodded. "Good." He stood. "Well, gentlemen, I am going to get some sleep. I trust you can make your own accommodations?" Martin stood. "Yes, I have made some arrangements. Farewell, King Agares." The trio vanished. Agares saw the chairs move, as if by their own accord, footsteps to the door, the door opened, the footsteps went through it, and the door closed.

Agares had a bath, and got into bed and was soon asleep.
