Agares Chapter 11 and Sasalai Chapter 7
"The Ultimate Weapon"
(L'Renouille)

Zecks Matiste, Sasalai concluded, is hiding something.

It was rather obvious, though, especially after weeks of musing. The man's somewhat cryptic words still resounded in his mind.

"You don't know me.... you don't know who I am. Don't dare presume you can judge me on the hideously small amount of facts you know of me. And they are facts you will not know until the day you die. That's a promise."

Honestly, what in God's name was that supposed to mean? Was he trying to be scary? Intimidating? It didn't work. He had felt more intimidated whilst conversing with Mr. Stanton!

He wound around another corner, deep within the castle named L'Renouille, lost in his thoughts.

What I felt... it doesn't make sense...

I felt... the bloodlust...

The sudden flash of red against the stone floor awoke him from his train of thought. As his eyes focused upon it, he saw that it was a small stone. And it was red.

Red as blood.

That... that thing should've been resting in the ocean depths! What was it doing here? He wanted to destroy the relic, but not here. Not in this place.

He stooped over, taking care as to not knock the hat off his head, and reached for it, but that opportunity was snared from him by a white-gloved hand. Angry, he straightened again, wanting to see who the insolent fool was who dared do such a thing.

Much to Sasalai's chagrin, it was that old fool. Agares. King of Highland. He grasped the stone - the Infinity Stone - in his hand, wearing a half-smile, almost waiting to see what his reaction would be.

"Good day, High Priest Sasalai. How do you fare?"

"How on earth did you get that stone?" Sasalai's expression and tone displayed scarcely veiled anger, annoyance, revulsion.

This only seemed to amuse the king. "If I told you that, you'd know and take it from me again. And I cannot allow that."

"But... you haven't left for Harmonia! Weren’t you planning to go to the Traskthor Ruins?" Whoever named those ruins just had to have been completely stupid. Traskthor? It reminded Sasalai of some outdated mythological being or something.

"Please. Don't give me that. I know full well of your little deception. You hid it at the bottom of the sea a year ago, and knew full well of its location during our talk. Don't play me for the fool, High Priest."

I play you for a fool because you are a fool, you half-crazed idiotic power-monger who just happens to have grown too big for his britches. "That stone... that stone is evil. A tool of demons. It was not intended for mortal man!"

"I don’t care. If you knew what I went through to get this stone... But, never mind. I have important work to do. I just wanted to show you my new acquisition. Goodbye, High Priest."

Agares turned and walked away, leaving behind a rather agitated High Priest.

Arrogant bastard. He'll get his in the end.

Agares changed out of his robes of office and into some heavy work clothes. He then took his sword down from where it hung.

“Blitz.” He said to it. “You have served me faithfully for my entire life. Now I will reward you for your years of service. I am evolving you, as it were, into the Ultimate Weapon. You shall become my Life’s Greatest Work. Now is the time of your ascension.”

He left the room with Blitz in one hand, the Infinity Stone in the other.

Agares told all the Blacksmiths in the Forge to leave as soon as he got there. The King had important work to do and must not be disturbed. The Blacksmiths left immediately.

Agares knew his way around a Forge. He had taken lessons, in preparation for this moment. He took Blitz and made a hole in the hilt. He took the King’s Stone from around his neck and took it off the string that had held it for so long. He placed the King’s Stone in the hole and then welded the stone to the hilt. Agares then made a hole in the blade of Blitz itself and there he put the Infinity Stone in this hole. Again, he welded the Stone to the blade, making both Stones parts of Blitz.

Agares then took his sword, and walked straight to the Training grounds. The White Dragons were there, going through different training manoeuvres.

Captain Lydia saw Agares coming. “King Agares on the field!” She barked. Each Dragon immediately saluted.

Agares gave a quick ‘at ease’. There was a row of Dummies at the far end of the field. Agares studied it, then raised his sword. A blast erupted from the sword, a blast of lightning, laced with fire, earth, and air. The Elemental Blast struck the Dummies and there was a huge explosion. Agares smiled in satisfaction. He turned to the White Dragons.

“I give you the weapon that shall win this war.” He said proudly. “I give you…the Sword of Highland! This, is my life’s greatest work and it shall turn the Kingdom of Highland, into an Empire, as we add the lands of the City States of Jowston to our own! This war is OURS.”
